- Doug Aitken, Migration, 2009
An assassin, making his way across the country, sleeping in Holiday Inns. There is a pool, and HBO. There is a coverlet stained with -
Never mind the things the coverlet is stained with. The coverlet is shredded. The pillow is dead. Don’t talk about the job. Don’t talk about the mirror above the bed. The job is the job and the room is the room, and there are other things in a life, but they’re off the table now. This is a weekend’s work. Don’t talk about her. Don’t talk about you. Don’t talk about the things that you want to talk about. This is a swoop. This is a throat. This is a vein. Everything can be destroyed. It only takes a little patience. A weekend in a motel. A window. A communicating door. An ice machine, a bathtub, a twisted sheet, a beak, a talon, a camera.
PS: A video version of this installation. Very worth watching.

- Lepidonotopodium piscesae Pettibone.
A hydrothermal worm, with a toothy beak. It lives off the coast of Washington.
With the lights out, it’s less dangerous.
